HISTORY
OUR STORY IS ROOTED IN
HISTORY, COMMUNITY, AND QUALITY
AND IT ALL STARTS IN SCHENECTADY, NY.
Our story starts in 1903 with Schenectady’s local baseball team, the Frog Alley’s, named for the swampy, frog-infested lands where they played baseball on Lower State Street.
On May 25th, the Frog Alley’s were hosting Albany for a game, but there was one problem — in Schenectady, blue laws made it illegal to play baseball on Sundays.
“The entire Schenectady, NY team was arrested, charged with playing Sunday ball,” the 1904 Reach Official American League Baseball Guide notes. Fortunately, Captain Ellis successfully cleared their case the following day, allowing the Frog Alley's to continue playing with renewed determination. They returned to the field to beat their opponent in the ninth inning, and went on to win the New York State league pennant that same year.
Over a century later, the name earned a second meaning as Frog Alley Brewing Co. was established as the cornerstone of the Mill Artisan District. Inspired by the Frog Alley’s historical legacy and the ongoing efforts to restore Schenectady to its former glory, our spacious taproom and state-of-the-art brewery encourage beer enthusiasts to explore Schenectady and immerse themselves in its thriving craft brew culture at our can’t-miss destination.
Our award-winning brews continue the story of the Frog Alley’s, a team that settled for no less than the best for both their city and those who came to see them play.
